What are the types of cars available for people like me?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive.
However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. Additionally, starting your driving lessons will help you better prepare for the theory test.
What is the duration of each lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. However, our skilled instructors, working with a properly planned course outline, ensure that you will spend only two hours on average on each task. Do you think you can learn faster? Contact us to set up a faster instruction programme.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. Or we can arrange a more flexible schedule that suits your needs. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. No matter what type of schedule you have, we can arrange something suitable for you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Under certain circumstances, you might want to receive driving lessons in your car. If you intend on using your car for the driving test, we believe practicing with your own car could be a great idea. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Regardless of what your motive might be, Smart Drive UK can deliver driving lessons in your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule permits for more than one driving lesson per week, you are welcome to take the opportunity. Our Smart Drive UK fixed and flexible schedule plans can be personalised to suit even the busiest individual’s schedule. If you want a sped up training programme that consists of multiple lessons every week, we’ve got you covered. At the end of the day, what matters is that you’re able to grasp what is being taught and can pass the driving test the first time. Our first time pass rate is stellar, which means you are in good hands regardless of the training programme you opt for.

Make a booking for your test
Where do I go to book a test?
It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. We recommend this because you may end up having to pay more if you use third-party websites. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Not clear enough? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long will it take before the tests are completed?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. The driving test takes less than an hour, specifically 40 minutes.
What happens on test day?
Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. If you pass this stage, you will be asked a series of ‘show and tell’ questions by the examiner to demonstrate your knowledge. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. The entire driving test should last about 40 minutes. Although taking the practical driving test can be a nerve-racking experience, it’s important to remember that everything you will encounter during the process is something you have performed several times during the course of your driving lessons.
Obtaining a full driving license
Well done on getting through your practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. We will only have carried out our mandate when you have become a qualified and licensed driver.
