We have both manual and automatic cars to learn in, so the choice of car comes down to you. Your choice will work well, regardless of what you need it for, because both manual cars and automatic are common on UK roads. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Give us a call right away on 07760 767170 for the advice you need.
Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Generally, you will be advised to pass the theory test before you go for your practical driving lessons. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat. Here at Smart Drive UK, however, we understand that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. In addition, someone that is already experienced in driving lessons will have a higher chance of success when it is time for the theory test.
How long is each lesson?
We know you’d like to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson, so you can better plan your day. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. However, our skilled instructors, working with a properly planned course outline, ensure that you will spend only two hours on average on each task. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We all have different schedules. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. For example, we could arrange for back to back training every day that will speed up your training and have you prepared for your driving test faster. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever the reason, at Smart Drive UK, we are able to offer our customers driving lessons in their own car. But this type of service is only available to clients with registered and comprehensively insured roadworthy vehicles. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule permits for more than one driving lesson per week, you are welcome to take the opportunity. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer a shorter training and practice programme that involves multiple driving lessons every week, we can arrange it. At the end of the day, what matters is that you’re able to grasp what is being taught and can pass the driving test the first time. The first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you are in good hands when you choose Smart Drive UK.

You have to pass the Hazard Perception test before you can be issued a full driver’s license During the test, various videos depicting normal road scenes and a developing hazard will be shown to you. Your reactions are what determine whether you pass or fail. Don’t fret about acing your driving test, as we have a solution to make it easier for you. Smart Drive UK helps you get ready for the DVLA driving test by providing mock theory test practice. To qualify for a driver’s license, you will have to take the official DVLA test. We have little doubt that you will be able to ace the test after completing one of our driving courses. So many of our customers have passed the test the first time that we are confident you can achieve similar results.
Book your tests
How do I book a test?
It is best to book your driving test directly via the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You should only book your driving test if you have already passed the hazard perception test and the theory test. Not clear enough? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
What is the duration of the tests?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. The driving test takes less than an hour, specifically 40 minutes.
What you should expect on the day of the test.
Once you have showed your provisional license and theory test certificate, you will be asked to read the digits of a license plate a few feet away to prove you have good eyesight. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. You will have to drive without guidance for about 20 minutes, in which the examiner may ask you to stop to test your ability to manage an emergency. Approximately 40 minutes will be sufficient for you to complete the driving test. Although taking the practical driving test can be a nerve-racking experience, it’s important to remember that everything you will encounter during the process is something you have performed several times during the course of your driving lessons.
After the test
What happens before you get your full driving license?
Well done on getting through your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. You should receive your license no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. Our representatives at Smart Drive UK are always ready to provide guidance throughout the process of getting a driving license. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
