What are the types of cars available for learning in?
Over the years, we have seen people who prefer to only learn in automatic vehicles, and we have also seen people that love the manual stick. You will have the freedom to choose what car you’d like to learn in, as we have both manual and automatic cars. Your choice of learning with manual or automatic will be a smart one regardless, as both variants can be found all across the UK. Can’t make up your mind on one choice over the other? You can talk to us right away and we will be delighted to help (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). We are waiting by the phone for you.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat. However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
How long will it take to complete a lesson?
We know you’d like to better plan your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. However, our system of training means that our students generally spend around a couple of hours on each lesson. Interested in a different training schedule? Call us on 07760 767170 to find out more.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that every individual has their unique schedule. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving training every week, it will be sufficient. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. Regardless of your schedule, we can always make arrangements to suit you.
Please fill free to call us on 08450 179 778 or Text/Call on 07760 767170.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
You may prefer to undergo your driving training behind the wheel of your own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. But such a service can only be offered if your vehicle is registered and deemed roadworthy, as well as possessing comprehensive insurance. A notification will be sent to your car insurance company concerning your vehicle being used for driving lessons, and verification of the valid registration of your car can be performed by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedules that can accommodate everyone. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. We have a very impressive first time pass rate, so you’re in reliable hands no matter your schedule or learning speed.

New Hazard Perception Test
Passing the Hazard Perception Test is crucial to passing the UK theory test for learner drivers. It is a compulsory test that has to be passed before you can be granted a full driver’s license. A series of videos will be shown during the test, depicting everyday road scenes and a developing hazard. Responding appropriately to the developing hazard will determine if you pass the test. At Smart Drive UK, we make sure every one of our learner drivers are put through their paces in preparation for the Hazard Perception Test, which is a precursor to the practical driving test at the DVLA. Rest assured you’ll be fully prepared, especially after practicing with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions.

Driving test in New-Malden

Booking your driving test
What do I have to do to book a test?
First, we suggest that you make your booking via the official Gov.UK website. We recommend this because you may end up having to pay more if you use third-party websites. You are required to pass the theory test and hazard perception test before you can book the driving test. Not clear enough? The process will get clearer when you work with our instructors at Smart Drive UK, who will guide you from day one.
How long will it take before the tests are completed?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. The driving test takes less than an hour, specifically 40 minutes.
What happens on test day?
The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. You will have to drive without guidance for about 20 minutes, in which the examiner may ask you to stop to test your ability to manage an emergency. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.
Post-Test
What happens before you get your full driving license?
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. Now, you can apply for a full driving license. The results of your practical driving test will be sent to the DVLA, where your license will be processed. You should receive your license no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. Our representatives at Smart Drive UK are always ready to provide guidance throughout the process of getting a driving license. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
