High first time pass rate
A common misconception amongst learner drivers is that a fail on the first driving test attempt is normal. Although it is true that some people fail, many more tend to pass. In fact, according to statistics, you have a higher chance of passing your driving test the first time.
When you fail a test, the emotional and financial commitment that went into the process makes it all the more disappointing. Smart Drive UK is the place to go if you are after a driving school that has the best lessons to prepare you for a first time pass. We’re proud to have one of the best pass rates in the whole of the UK.

What are the types of cars available for people like me?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat.
One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. Another advantage to starting your driving test right away, is that you will be better prepared for the theory test.
How long will it take to complete a lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. However, our skilled instructors, working with a properly planned course outline, ensure that you will spend only two hours on average on each task. Want a quicker or slower training schedule? Call us right away to discuss your options.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We all have different schedules. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. If it suits your needs, you can continue your training following this schedule. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. For instance, we can provide you back to back training that’ll get you sufficiently prepared for your driving test sooner. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Under certain circumstances, you might want to receive driving lessons in your car. If you intend on using your car for the driving test, we believe practicing with your own car could be a great idea. You may also be looking to familiarise yourself with the vehicle, especially if it’s a new one. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If you have enough time for multiple driving lessons per week, you are welcome to take advantage of all the time at your disposal. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. At the end of the day, what matters is that you’re able to grasp what is being taught and can pass the driving test the first time. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

Book your tests
Where do I go to book a test?
First, we suggest that you make your booking via the official Gov.UK website. If you book it through third party websites, you could end up paying more than you should. You should only book your driving test if you have already passed the hazard perception test and the theory test. Sound complicated? The process will get clearer when you work with our instructors at Smart Drive UK, who will guide you from day one.
How long are the tests?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. The driving test takes less than an hour, specifically 40 minutes.
It’s test day, now what?
Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. Next, you will have to demonstrate your knowledge by answering a series of show and tell questions, but only if you pass the eye test. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.
What follows after the test?
Getting your full driving license
Great job acing that practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. You can count on Smart Drive UK for guidance throughout the process of getting a driver’s license. Our job is only complete when you are officially a qualified and licensed driver.
