What is the duration of the tests?
There are five parts to the practical driving test, including independent driving, vehicle reversing, an eyesight check, safety questions, and driving ability. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. The driving test takes less than an hour, specifically 40 minutes.
What happens on the designated day?
Once you have showed your provisional license and theory test certificate, you will be asked to read the digits of a license plate a few feet away to prove you have good eyesight. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. The driving test will last around 40 minutes. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.

What to expect before obtaining your full driving license
Congratulations on passing your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test.
