High chance of first time pass
Many learner drivers believe that it is perfectly fine to fail the driving test the first time. Although it is true that some people fail, many more tend to pass. In fact, according to statistics, you have a higher chance of passing your driving test the first time. When you fail a test, the emotional and financial commitment that went into the process makes it all the more disappointing. If you want to get the training that truly prepares you for a first time pass, Smart Drive UK is the place to be. We are happy to note that we have some of the best pass rates across the UK.

What are the types of cars available for people like me?
We know that there are many students that want to learn how to drive in manual cars, and there are also those that prefer automatic transmission. You will have the freedom to choose what car you’d like to learn in, as we have both manual and automatic cars. Both manual and automatic cars are common on UK roads, and either choice will work well for whatever you need it for. Can’t make up your mind on one choice over the other? You can talk to us right away and we will be delighted to help (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). We are waiting by the phone for you.
Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will tell you it’s better to pass the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive. Here at Smart Drive UK, however, we understand that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
How long will it take to complete a lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. However, our system of training means that our students generally spend around a couple of hours on each lesson. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, it is best if a learner driver gets at least two hours of driving training every week. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. Regardless of your schedule, we can put together a programme that best suits your needs.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. It’s also possible that you just got the car and are looking to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But such a service can only be offered if your vehicle is registered and deemed roadworthy, as well as possessing comprehensive insurance. A notification will be sent to your car insurance company concerning your vehicle being used for driving lessons, and verification of the valid registration of your car can be performed by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule permits for more than one driving lesson per week, you are welcome to take the opportunity. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you want a sped up training programme that consists of multiple lessons every week, we’ve got you covered. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

Manual Driving Lessons
Would you prefer manual driving lessons? We’ve got experts for that. Our competent and friendly instructors at Smart Drive UK make learning to drive a manual car both easy and fun. Aside from driving, our instructors will take the time to teach you about how manual vehicles work. You’ll learn from the experts how to safely change gears, control the clutch, and confidently drive in traffic. Once you learn to drive a manual car, you don’t have to bother about learning to drive an automatic. Manual driving lessons cover both.
What is Pass Plus?
The Pass Plus scheme is targeted at drivers in the UK who have recently successfully passed their driving test. Several new drivers shy away from driving on busy roads due to a lack of confidence. Fortunately, once your driving test has been passed, Smart Drive UK can be there for you by providing you everything you need to be a safe and confident driver on any road. While your initial training familiarises you with major road conditions, Pass Plus training will let you experience the roads outside your immediate vicinity first hand. Want more information? Contact us by phone for a friendly chat about our Pass Plus scheme.
New Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception test is part of the UK theory test for learner drivers. It is a mandatory test which will determine if the driver is suitable to obtain a full driver’s license. A series of videos will be shown during the test, depicting everyday road scenes and a developing hazard. Inability to respond appropriately to the developing hazard will result in failing the test. We have the expertise and materials at Smart Drive UK to ensure you pass your Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. Our trainers will guide you with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions, to fully prepare you on what to expect.

What tests do I need to pass before I get my license?
Practice before the main test
Passing your driving test gets easier with us, as we have made provision for you to practice. Smart Drive UK makes provisions for mock theory test practice modelled after the DVLA driving exam. Pass our mock test and the DVLA theory practice test will be a breeze, as will the actual theory test that comes afterward.
Qualify for your driving license in Rochester
To qualify for a driver’s license, you will have to take the official DVLA test. Take any of our driving courses for a chance to pass your test on the very first attempt. With the high pass rate amongst hundreds of our customers, you can see why we are so confident.
Book your tests
What is the process of booking a test like?
It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. Booking through a third-party website can end up costing you more. You should only book your driving test if you have already passed the hazard perception test and the theory test. Sound complicated? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
What is the duration of the tests?
There are five parts to the practical driving test, including independent driving, vehicle reversing, an eyesight check, safety questions, and driving ability. Both automatic and manual transmission is given the same treatment during testing. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
It’s test day, now what?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. We understand that you may be extremely nervous during the practical driving test, but remember that you have already encountered all you’ll have to do in your driving lessons.
So you have completed the test
Obtaining a full driving license
You should be proud now that you have passed your practical driving test. Now, you can apply for a full driving license. The examiner will send the results of your practical driving test to the DVLA, who will process your license. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. It is only when you have become a licensed and qualified driver that we can dust our hands.
