What are the types of cars available for people like me?
Over the years, we have seen people who prefer to only learn in automatic vehicles, and we have also seen people that love the manual stick. We can cater to both groups, so the choice ultimately comes down to you. Both manual and automatic cars are common on UK roads, and either choice will work well for whatever you need it for. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Call us today on 07760 767170 for expert advice.
Is it possible to start my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
The common belief with the general public is that you should pass the theory test before you set out to take practical driving classes. There are benefits to this advice, as it is in your best interest to, first and foremost, understand how a car works before you get into it. One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. The combination creates a synergy which makes it easier to grasp both elements of driving training at the same time. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
What is the length of time for each lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. Do you think you can learn faster? Contact us to set up a faster instruction programme .
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. If it suits your needs, you can continue your training following this schedule. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. No matter what type of schedule you have, we can arrange something suitable for you.

Can I have lessons in my own car?
Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It’s also possible that you just got the car and are looking to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever the reason, at Smart Drive UK, we are able to offer our customers driving lessons in their own car. But such a service can only be offered if your vehicle is registered and deemed roadworthy, as well as possessing comprehensive insurance. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We can provide you multiple lessons per week if your busy schedule permits it. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. Our priority is to provide you the training you need at your preferred pace, and have you prepared to ace the driving test the first time. The first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you are in good hands when you choose Smart Drive UK.

As part of our training at Smart Drive UK, we offer comprehensive preparation to all our students for the Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. What tests do I need to pass before I get my license?
Increase your chances of passing the DVLA test
Passing your driving test gets easier with us, as we have made provision for you to practice. Smart Drive UK makes provisions for mock theory test practice modelled after the DVLA driving exam. As long as you can pass this, you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which is required before you can take the actual theory test.
Gillingham driving test
You can only get your driver’s license after you have taken the official DVLA test. We are confident that after attending any of our driving courses, you’ll have what it takes to pass the test on the first attempt. We have an excellent first time pass rate that can be affirmed by hundreds of our satisfied customers.
Booking your driving test
Where do I go to book a test?
Go to the official Gov.UK website to book your driving test. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. Before booking the driving test, you must first have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Sound confusing? It’s not as complicated as it sounds, you’ll have Smart Drive UK instructors to guide you from day one until you get your license.
How long do the tests take?
You will have to pass through the five aspects of the practical driving test: driving ability, safety questions, an eyesight check, independent driving, and vehicle reversing. You will have to complete the steps in the same manner, whether you are working with automatic or manual transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
What happens on the designated day?
Once you have showed your provisional license and theory test certificate, you will be asked to read the digits of a license plate a few feet away to prove you have good eyesight. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.
Post-Test
Obtaining a full driving license
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. This means you are now qualified to apply for a proper driving license. The results of your practical driving test will be sent to the DVLA, where your license will be processed. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. We will only have carried out our mandate when you have become a qualified and licensed driver.
