High first time pass rate

Many learner drivers believe it’s normal to fail their driving test on the first attempt. It is quite possible that some will fail, but a lot more will pass. In reality, there is statistical evidence to show that the first test is the one you will most likely pass. Failing a driving test is disappointing, both financially and emotionally, and it will cost more time and money to prepare for another test. Smart Drive UK is the place to go if you are after a driving school that has the best lessons to prepare you for a first time pass. We take pride in the fact that, as a driving school, our first time pass rates are among the highest across the UK.

You will have the freedom to choose what car you’d like to learn in, as we have both manual and automatic cars. Whatever option you choose to go with, you will be in good company, as there are lots of manual and automatic drivers in the UK. If you don’t understand how each type of car fits into your specific needs and requirements, you can give us a call today and we will help you (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Is it possible to start my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?

You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat. However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. In addition, someone that is already experienced in driving lessons will have a higher chance of success when it is time for the theory test.

The Hazard Perception Test comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA, and we have all the materials and information you need to pass the Hazard Perception Test on your first try. Tests required before licenses are issued

Increase your chances of passing the DVLA test

Passing your driving test gets easier with us, as we have made provision for you to practice. At Smart Drive UK, our mock theory test practice is tailored to the DVLA driving exam. In order to qualify for the actual theory test, you need to pass the DVLA theory practice test and passing our mock test means you can do it.

Shirley driving test

The driving test is the official DVLA test you have to take before obtaining your driver’s license. Taking any of our driving courses is certain to equip you with the knowledge required to sail through the test the first time. With the high pass rate amongst hundreds of our customers, you can see why we are so confident.

Make a booking for your test

What is the process of booking a test like?

First, we suggest that you make your booking via the official Gov.UK website. Booking through a third-party website can end up costing you more. You are required to pass the theory test and hazard perception test before you can book the driving test. Sound confusing? You don’t have to worry too much, because our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be on hand to guide you through it all.

How long will I have to wait to complete the test?

For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. You will have to complete the steps in the same manner, whether you are working with automatic or manual transmission. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.

What you should expect on the day of the test.

After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. Next, you will be made to prove to the examiner that you can drive safely and effectively no matter the terrain, as well as successfully reverse a vehicle. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.

What to do after the test

What to expect before obtaining your full driving license

Congratulations on passing your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. You should receive your license no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. You can count on Smart Drive UK for guidance throughout the process of getting a driver’s license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.

Is it sensible to do driving lessons before passing the theory test?

Often students are told by other companies that practical driving lessons shouldn’t be started until the theory test has been completed. It does make sense to understand driving and cars better before commencing practical driving lessons. Smart Drive UK takes a slightly different approach; we believe that the combination of theoretical and practical training at the same time can be more beneficial. The combination creates a synergy that makes it easier to grasp elements of driver training at the same time. Those that start practical driving lessons and then take the theory test tend to pass more easily.

How long should I expect driving lessons to last?

We understand it’s important to plan your driving lessons around your other daily activities. The length of lessons will be decided based on your aptitude and the instructor you work with. The training system that we use, and the structures of the courses we run, mean that most lessons tend to be around two hours. Give us a call if you would like lesson schedules that can get you to your goal faster over a longer period.

How frequently should my driving lessons be done?

We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. However, progression as you learn to drive is best if you do a minimum of two hours per week. You need to work out whether this works for you. So, tailor the effort to fit two hours a week. You can opt for a more flexible schedule, which will be more than happy to accommodate. We can arrange driving lessons on several days in a row to speed your progress toward your practical driving test. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.

Is it possible to learn to drive in my car?

If you have your car you may feel more comfortable during driving lessons in it. This is not only understandable but also a great idea, especially if you plan to use the car for your driving test. If you have a new car that you are trying to get used to then this can make even more sense. We’re more than happy for you to use your vehicle for driving lessons and for practicing driving at Smart Drive UK.

However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered and comprehensively insured. Will verify that your car is right for your lessons by inspecting your papers, and your insurance company will have to be notified about the driving lessons in the car. We suggest you move lessons and your vehicle only when it is safe to do so, and we normally recommend that you begin lessons in a dual-controlled car and by your driving instructor.

Are all vehicles dual controlled?

Smart Drive UK driving instructors teach in dual control cars.

By taking notes after lessons on the feedback provided you can enhance your chances of taking on board the information. Then you can go into each new lesson having assimilated the information from the previous one. Your driver training process can also be improved by watching additional resources and your driving instructor can advise you on what to watch.

How do you know when you are ready for your practical driving test?

Your driving instructor will advise you when you are ready to book/take your practical driving test based on your progress level within your driving lessons. They understand what you will need to be able to do to partial test and will be continually assessing you against these levels

Can I do my practical driving test in the same car as my lessons?

Any fully insured car can be used for your driving test. Our guidance is that you choose to do your driving test in your driving instructor’s car, as that is what you have become familiar with.

Will my instructor be in the car during my driving test?

It is possible for driving instructors to come on the test with you [subject to COVID-19 rules]. Your driving test examiner will probably ask you if you would like your instructor to accompany you on the test. You can discuss the test with your driving instructor to decide whether it is a good idea or not. It is normally the case that automatic cars are easier and faster to learn than learning to drive a manual car.
