High chance of first time pass
Most learner drivers think it is normal to fail a driving test on the first attempt. The number of people that fail their driving test may be high, but the number that passes the test the first time is also high. Results have shown us time and time again that a first-time pass is a very likely outcome of your driving test.
Failing a driving test will leave you feeling very disappointed, when you factor in the mental stress and finances that went into the training. Smart Drive UK is the place to go if you are after a driving school that has the best lessons to prepare you for a first time pass. We have some of the best first time pass rates across the UK.

What type of car will I be learning in?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive.
Here at Smart Drive UK, however, we understand that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. The combination creates a synergy which makes it easier to grasp both elements of driving training at the same time. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
How long is each lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. This is not only understandable, but also a great idea, especially if you plan to use the car for your driving test. Such an arrangement could also be beneficial if the car is a new one and you are trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule allows for more than one lesson a week, then there’s no reason not to take advantage. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedules that can accommodate everyone. If you want a sped up training programme that consists of multiple lessons every week, we’ve got you covered. At the end of the day, what matters is that you’re able to grasp what is being taught and can pass the driving test the first time. Our impressive first time pass rate is a clear sign of our capability to make you a roadworthy driver within your preferred time frame.

New Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception test is part of the UK theory test for learner drivers. You cannot be issued a full driver’s license without passing the Hazard Perception test. This test involves a series of videos, detailing everyday road scenes and, in one case, a developing hazard. Responding appropriately to the developing hazard will determine if you pass the test. At Smart Drive UK, we make sure every one of our learner drivers are put through their paces in preparation for the Hazard Perception Test, which is a precursor to the practical driving test at the DVLA. Booking your driving test
How do I go about booking a test?
It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. We recommend this because you may end up having to pay more if you use third-party websites. Booking a driving test comes after you have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Not clear enough? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long will I have to wait to complete the test?
There are five parts to the practical driving test, including independent driving, vehicle reversing, an eyesight check, safety questions, and driving ability. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
What happens on test day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.
Ready for a full driving license
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. You can now proceed to the next step, which is to apply for a proper driving license. The examiner will send the results of your practical driving test to the DVLA, who will process your license. Within three weeks of completing the practical test, you should receive your license. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.
