What are the types of cars available for people like me?
Over the years, we have seen people who prefer to only learn in automatic vehicles, and we have also seen people that love the manual stick. Ultimately, you will determine the choice of car in which you’ll be learning. Both manual and automatic cars are common on UK roads, and either choice will work well for whatever you need it for. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Give us a call right away on 07760 767170 for the advice you need.
Can I start driving lessons without having passed the theory test?
Generally, you will be advised to pass the theory test before you go for your practical driving lessons. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat. One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
How long is each lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, it is best if a learner driver gets at least two hours of driving training every week. If you like, you can choose to maintain this schedule. Or we can arrange a more flexible schedule that suits your needs. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. Regardless of your schedule, we can always make arrangements to suit you.
Please fill free to call us on 08450 179 778 or Text/Call on 07760 767170.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. If you intend on using your car for the driving test, we believe practicing with your own car could be a great idea. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Whatever your motive is, our experts at Smart Drive UK can have you ready for your test with training in your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. A notification will be sent to your car insurance company concerning your vehicle being used for driving lessons, and verification of the valid registration of your car can be performed by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We can provide you multiple lessons per week if your busy schedule permits it. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedules that can accommodate everyone. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. Our priority is to provide you the training you need at your preferred pace, and have you prepared to ace the driving test the first time. New Hazard Perception Test
Passing the Hazard Perception Test is crucial to passing the UK theory test for learner drivers. It is a compulsory test that has to be passed before you can be granted a full driver’s license. During the test, various videos depicting normal road scenes and a developing hazard will be shown to you. Your reactions are what determine whether you pass or fail. We have the expertise and materials at Smart Drive UK to ensure you pass your Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. After practicing with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions, you’ll be more than prepared for the test.

Make a booking for your test
How do I go about booking a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You are required to pass the theory test and hazard perception test before you can book the driving test. Does this sound confusing? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long are the tests?
The driving test has five aspects, which include an eyesight check, driving ability, safety questions, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
What happens on the designated day?
After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. The next stage involves proving that you can successfully reverse a car and drive without issue on different types of roads. You will have to drive without guidance for about 20 minutes, in which the examiner may ask you to stop to test your ability to manage an emergency. Approximately 40 minutes will be sufficient for you to complete the driving test. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
What follows after the test?
What to expect before obtaining your full driving license
Well done on getting through your practical driving test. You can now proceed to the next step, which is to apply for a proper driving license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. From day one, to the day you get your driving license, Smart Drive UK is always ready to guide you through the process. It is only when you have become a licensed and qualified driver that we can dust our hands.
