Over the coming weeks we are going to share three or four hints and tips on what to consider to help you pass your driving test and what the driving examiner is looking for. You can reflect on these areas whilst practising your driving either with your driving instructor or trainer. Some of these things will need to be demonstrated during your driving test.

We hope you find these helpful.

1. Eyesight Test

At the start of your driving lessons and your driving test your driving instructor/ examiner will ask you to read a vehicle registration number at a distance of 20 meters. If you do not meet the eyesight standard then your test will not go ahead. If you need glasses or contact lenses to make sure you can read the number you must wear them whenever you drive or ride.

2. Controlled stop

During your driving lessons you will taught and/or assessed on our to complete a controlled emergency stop. Whilst in your driving test you may have been asked to show you were able to stop your vehicle in good time and under full control, as if in an emergency situation. Remember, when driving in wet or icy weather conditions, it will take you longer to stop safely.

3. Reversing

During your driving lessons you will be taught and/or assessed on how to complete various reversing manoeuvres which will include a minimum of Bay parking, Parallel parking and Pulling up on the right side of the road and reversing. Depending on the test you take, you will be asked to complete one or more slow speed manoeuvring exercises. You will need to show you were able to keep control of your vehicle. This needs to be done whilst taking effective observations and acting correctly on what you saw.

Look out for additional tips soon.
