Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?

Can I have lessons in my own car?

What tests do I need to pass before I get my license?

How long are the tests?

What happens on the designated day?
Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.

The results of your practical driving test will be sent to the DVLA, where your license will be processed. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test.
