What are the types of cars available for learning in?
There are some learner drivers who prefer to learn with automatic vehicles only, while there are those who opt for the manual or gear stick variety. You will have the freedom to choose what car you’d like to learn in, as we have both manual and automatic cars. Manual and automatic cars are equally popular across the UK, and your choice is completely to your wishes. Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. There are benefits to this advice, as it is in your best interest to, first and foremost, understand how a car works before you get into it. However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. The combination creates a synergy which makes it easier to grasp both elements of driving training at the same time. Another advantage to starting your driving test right away, is that you will be better prepared for the theory test.
What is the duration of each lesson?
We know you’d like to better plan your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. However, our skilled instructors, working with a properly planned course outline, ensure that you will spend only two hours on average on each task. Want a quicker or slower training schedule? Call us right away to discuss your options.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving training every week, it will be sufficient. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. But if you’d prefer a more flexible schedule, we can arrange something for you. For instance, we can provide you back to back training that’ll get you sufficiently prepared for your driving test sooner. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Under certain circumstances, you might want to receive driving lessons in your car. This is understandable, and may even be a great idea if you intend on using your own car during your driving test. You may also be looking to familiarise yourself with the vehicle, especially if it’s a new one. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If you have enough time for multiple driving lessons per week, you are welcome to take advantage of all the time at your disposal. Our Smart Drive UK fixed and flexible schedule plans can be personalised to suit even the busiest individual’s schedule. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

New Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception Test is essential for UK learner drivers looking to pass the driving theory exam. It is a mandatory test which will determine if the driver is suitable to obtain a full driver’s license. During the test, various videos depicting normal road scenes and a developing hazard will be shown to you. Inability to respond appropriately to the developing hazard will result in failing the test. As part of our training at Smart Drive UK, we offer comprehensive preparation to all our students for the Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. After practicing with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions, you’ll be more than prepared for the test.

Required tests you must pass before you are issued your license
Mock theory test
Why worry about passing your driving test when we have a solution to make it as easy as can be. Smart Drive UK helps you get ready for the DVLA driving test by providing mock theory test practice. As long as you can pass this, you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which is required before you can take the actual theory test.
Take your driving test in Shropshire
To qualify for a driver’s license, you will have to take the official DVLA test. Taking any of our driving courses is certain to equip you with the knowledge required to sail through the test the first time. The hundreds of customers who have used our service and passed the test the first time provide sufficient evidence that our courses are designed to deliver results.
Make a test booking
How do I book a test?
Go to the official Gov.UK website to book your driving test. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You are required to pass the theory test and hazard perception test before you can book the driving test. Sound complicated? You don’t have to worry too much, because our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be on hand to guide you through it all.
How long are the tests?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What happens on the designated day?
Once you have showed your provisional license and theory test certificate, you will be asked to read the digits of a license plate a few feet away to prove you have good eyesight. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. Next, you will be made to prove to the examiner that you can drive safely and effectively no matter the terrain, as well as successfully reverse a vehicle. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. Approximately 40 minutes will be sufficient for you to complete the driving test. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
After the test
Getting your full driving license
Great job acing that practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. You should receive your license no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. You can count on Smart Drive UK for guidance throughout the process of getting a driver’s license. We will only have carried out our mandate when you have become a qualified and licensed driver.
