Results show that there is a higher probability of passing your driving test the first time.
When you fail a test, the emotional and financial commitment that went into the process makes it all the more disappointing. You are just a phone call away from getting expert advice.
What type of car will I be learning in?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
The common belief with the general public is that you should pass the theory test before you set out to take practical driving classes. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat.
However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. In addition, someone that is already experienced in driving lessons will have a higher chance of success when it is time for the theory test.
How long is each lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. However, our skilled instructors, and well-packaged training system, is such that an average of two hours each day for instruction and practice is sufficient. Interested in a different training schedule? Call us on 0845 017 9778 to find out more.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We all have different schedules. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. But if you’d prefer a more flexible schedule, we can arrange something for you. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. A notification will be sent to your car insurance company concerning your vehicle being used for driving lessons, and verification of the valid registration of your car can be performed by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If you have enough time for multiple driving lessons per week, you are welcome to take advantage of all the time at your disposal. This is thanks to our flexible and fixed schedules that can accommodate you, regardless your circumstance. If you want a sped up training programme that consists of multiple lessons every week, we’ve got you covered. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. Our first time pass rate is stellar, which means you are in good hands regardless of the training programme you opt for.

Book your tests
What is the process of booking a test like?
It is best to book your driving test directly via the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. Before booking the driving test, you must first have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Can’t quite wrap your head around it? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
What is the duration of the tests?
You will have to pass through the five aspects of the practical driving test: driving ability, safety questions, an eyesight check, independent driving, and vehicle reversing. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What can I expect on test day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Next, you will have to demonstrate your knowledge by answering a series of show and tell questions, but only if you pass the eye test. The next stage involves proving that you can successfully reverse a car and drive without issue on different types of roads. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.
After the test
What happens before you get your full driving license?
Well done on getting through your practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. The examiner will send the results of your practical driving test to the DVLA, who will process your license. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. Our representatives at Smart Drive UK are always ready to provide guidance throughout the process of getting a driving license. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
