What are the types of cars available for people like me?
We have students who only want to learn how to drive in automatic vehicles, just as there are others who prefer to learn in only manual vehicles. We have both manual and automatic cars to learn in, so the choice of car comes down to you. Your choice will work well, regardless of what you need it for, because both manual cars and automatic are common on UK roads. Can’t make up your mind on one choice over the other? Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. This system has it benefits, as you will then know enough about using a car before getting behind the wheel. One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.

How long is each lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. Can I have lessons in my own car?
Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. Such an arrangement could also be beneficial if the car is a new one and you are trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. A notification will be sent to your car insurance company concerning your vehicle being used for driving lessons, and verification of the valid registration of your car can be performed by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?

What tests do I need to pass before I get my license?
Practice to pass

How long do the tests take?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. You will have to complete the steps in the same manner, whether you are working with automatic or manual transmission. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
What you should expect on the day of the test.
Once you have showed your provisional license and theory test certificate, you will be asked to read the digits of a license plate a few feet away to prove you have good eyesight. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. The driving test will last around 40 minutes. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.

What happens before you get your full driving license?
Congratulations on passing your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test.
