Excellent first time pass rate
A common misconception amongst learner drivers is that a fail on the first driving test attempt is normal. Although it is true that some people fail, many more tend to pass. In reality, there is statistical evidence to show that the first test is the one you will most likely pass. Failing a driving test is disappointing, both financially and emotionally, and it will cost more time and money to prepare for another test. If you want to get the training that truly prepares you for a first time pass, Smart Drive UK is the place to be. We take pride in the fact that, as a driving school, our first time pass rates are among the highest across the UK.

What type of car will I be learning in?
We have students who only want to learn how to drive in automatic vehicles, just as there are others who prefer to learn in only manual vehicles. Your choice of learning car is ultimately down to you, as we have both types. Both manual and automatic cars are common on UK roads, and either choice will work well for whatever you need it for. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Call us right away to get started.
Is it possible to start my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. This system has it benefits, as you will then know enough about using a car before getting behind the wheel. However, our approach here at Smart Drive UK is to mix theoretical and practical training. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
What is the duration of each lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. However, our skilled instructors, and well-packaged training system, is such that an average of two hours each day for instruction and practice is sufficient. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. Depending on your situation, you can decide to keep this schedule. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. Regardless of your schedule, we can put together a programme that best suits your needs.

Can I have lessons in my own car?
Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. One of our instructors will notify your car insurance company that your vehicle will be used for driving lessons, and will also inspect your car to verify its valid registration.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule allows for more than one lesson a week, then there’s no reason not to take advantage. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If you would like to complete your training fast by taking multiple lessons every week, we can arrange that. Our priority is to provide you the training you need at your preferred pace, and have you prepared to ace the driving test the first time. Our first time pass rate is stellar, which means you are in good hands regardless of the training programme you opt for.

New Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception Test is essential for UK learner drivers looking to pass the driving theory exam. You will be shown a series of videos during the test that detail regular road scenes, as well as a developing hazard. Responding appropriately to the developing hazard will determine if you pass the test. Booking your Test
What is the process of booking a test like?
It is best to book your driving test directly via the official Gov.UK website. It is more cost-effective to avoid booking through a third-party website. You are required to pass the theory test and hazard perception test before you can book the driving test. Not clear enough? You don’t have to worry too much, because our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be on hand to guide you through it all.
How long are the tests?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
What happens on test day?
The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.
What to do after the test
Ready for a full driving license
Great job acing that practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. It is only when you have become a licensed and qualified driver that we can dust our hands.
