What type of car will I be learning in?
There are some learner drivers who prefer to learn with automatic vehicles only, while there are those who opt for the manual or gear stick variety. Your choice of learning car is ultimately down to you, as we have both types. Your choice of learning with manual or automatic will be a smart one regardless, as both variants can be found all across the UK. If you don’t understand how each type of car fits into your specific needs and requirements, you can give us a call today and we will help you (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). You are just a phone call away from getting expert advice.
Can I start driving lessons without having passed the theory test?
The common belief with the general public is that you should pass the theory test before you set out to take practical driving classes. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat. As experts in the industry, however, we know that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
What is the duration of each lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. However, our system of training means that our students generally spend around a couple of hours on each lesson. Do you think you can learn faster? Contact us to set up a faster instruction programme .
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving training every week, it will be sufficient. If it suits your needs, you can continue your training following this schedule. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. Many of our clients that have the time prefer opting for back to back training every day, so they can be prepared for their driving test faster. No matter what type of schedule you have, we can arrange something suitable for you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of what your motive might be, Smart Drive UK can deliver driving lessons in your own car. But such a service can only be offered if your vehicle is registered and deemed roadworthy, as well as possessing comprehensive insurance. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. This is thanks to our flexible and fixed schedules that can accommodate you, regardless your circumstance. If you would like to complete your training fast by taking multiple lessons every week, we can arrange that. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

New Hazard Perception Test
One of the tests you’ll have to undergo before passing the UK driving test is the Hazard Perception Test. It is a mandatory test which will determine if the driver is suitable to obtain a full driver’s license. During the test, various videos depicting normal road scenes and a developing hazard will be shown to you. You need to respond appropriately to the developing hazard to pass the test. As part of our training at Smart Drive UK, we offer comprehensive preparation to all our students for the Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. Rest assured you’ll be fully prepared, especially after practicing with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions.

Make a booking for your test
What is the process of booking a test like?
It is best to book your driving test directly via the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You should only book your driving test if you have already passed the hazard perception test and the theory test. Can’t quite wrap your head around it? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long are the tests?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
It’s test day, now what?
Once you have showed your provisional license and theory test certificate, you will be asked to read the digits of a license plate a few feet away to prove you have good eyesight. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.
What follows after the test?
Ready for a full driving license
Great job acing that practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. The DVLA will process your license after receiving the results from your examiner. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. You can count on Smart Drive UK for guidance throughout the process of getting a driver’s license. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
