Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. This system has it benefits, as you will then know enough about using a car before getting behind the wheel.
However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. The combination creates a synergy which makes it easier to grasp both elements of driving training at the same time. In addition, someone that is already experienced in driving lessons will have a higher chance of success when it is time for the theory test.

Booking your Test
How do I book a test?
Go to the official Gov.UK website to book your driving test. If you book it through third party websites, you could end up paying more than you should. Before booking the driving test, you must first have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Sound confusing? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
What is the duration of the tests?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What happens on the designated day?
After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. Approximately 40 minutes will be sufficient for you to complete the driving test. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.
So you have completed the test
Obtaining a full driving license
You should be proud now that you have passed your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. The results of your practical driving test will be sent to the DVLA, where your license will be processed. You should receive your license no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. You can count on Smart Drive UK for guidance throughout the process of getting a driver’s license. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
