What type of car will I be having driving lessons in Southampton in?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Can I begin my driving lessons in Southampton before I have passed the theory test?
Generally, you will be advised to pass the theory test before you go for your practical driving lessons. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive.
However, at Smart Drive UK Driving School, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. In addition, someone that is already experienced in driving lessons will have a higher chance of success when it is time for the theory test.
What is the length of time for driving lessons in Southampton?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. The duration of each lesson is dependent on the teacher, as well as how fast you assimilate information. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons in Southampton?
Everyone’s schedule differs. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving lessons every week, it will be sufficient. Depending on your situation, you can decide to keep this schedule. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. If you prefer back to back driving lessons in Southampton each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.
Can I have driving lessons in Southampton in my own car?
You may prefer to undergo your driving lessons behind the wheel of your own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. Such an arrangement could also be beneficial if the car is a new one and you are trying to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK Driving School can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. One of our driving instructors will ask you to notify your car insurance company that your vehicle will be used for driving lessons, and will also inspect your car to verify its valid registration.
Can I have more than one driving lesson a week?
If your schedule allows for more than one driving lesson a week, then there’s no reason not to take advantage. At Smart Drive UK Driving School, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK Driving School, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.
You are just a text message away from getting expert advice.

What do I have to do to book a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. Before booking the driving test, you must first have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Not clear enough? The process will get clearer when you work with our instructors at Smart Drive UK Driving School, who will guide you from day one.
How long are the tests?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. The process is the same for both manual and automatic transmission. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What happens on test day?
Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
What to do after the test
