What type of car will I be learning in?

We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.

Can I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?

Many people will tell you it’s better to pass the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat.

However, our approach here at Smart Drive UK is to mix theoretical and practical training. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. Additionally, starting your driving lessons will help you better prepare for the theory test.

What is the duration of each lesson?

Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. However, with our instructors, and our carefully crafted training system, you can expect to spend an average of 2 hours on each lesson. Interested in a different training schedule? Call us on 0845 017 9778 to find out more.

How often should I have my driving lessons?

We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, it is best if a learner driver gets at least two hours of driving training every week. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. If, however, you want a more flexible schedule, we are always willing to accommodate you. For example, we could arrange for back to back training every day that will speed up your training and have you prepared for your driving test faster. No matter what type of schedule you have, we can arrange something suitable for you.

Can I have lessons in my own car?

Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. This is not only understandable, but also a great idea, especially if you plan to use the car for your driving test. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. An inspection of your car to verify its valid registration, and a call to your insurance company to inform them your car will be used for driving lessons will be carried out by one of our instructors.

Can I have more than one lesson a week?

We can provide you multiple lessons per week if you’re busy schedule permits it. This is thanks to our flexible and fixed schedules that can accommodate you, regardless your circumstance. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. Our impressive first time pass rate is a clear sign of our capability to make you a roadworthy driver within your preferred time frame.

Practice to pass

Passing your driving test has just been made easier, so don’t fret. Practice matters, so we offer mock theory test practice ahead of the DVLA driving exam. Passing our practice test means you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which comes before the actual theory test.

Driving Test South-Cerney

The driving test is the official DVLA test you have to take before obtaining your driver’s license. We are confident that after attending any of our driving courses, you’ll have what it takes to pass the test on the first attempt. We have an excellent first time pass rate that can be affirmed by hundreds of our satisfied customers.

Booking your Test

Where do I go to book a test?

The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. It is more cost-effective to avoid booking through a third-party website. You should only book your driving test if you have already passed the hazard perception test and the theory test. Sound complicated? It’s not as complicated as it sounds, you’ll have Smart Drive UK instructors to guide you from day one until you get your license.

How long do the tests take?

You will have to pass through the five aspects of the practical driving test: driving ability, safety questions, an eyesight check, independent driving, and vehicle reversing. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.

What you should expect on the day of the test.

Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. The next stage involves proving that you can successfully reverse a car and drive without issue on different types of roads. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. The entire driving test should last about 40 minutes. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.

After the test

Ready for a full driving license

You should be proud now that you have passed your practical driving test. This means you are now qualified to apply for a proper driving license. The DVLA will process your license after receiving the results from your examiner. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. We will only have carried out our mandate when you have become a qualified and licensed driver.
