High first time pass rate
A common misconception amongst learner drivers is that a fail on the first driving test attempt is normal. The number of people that fail their driving test may be high, but the number that passes the test the first time is also high. It’s been statistically proven that you actually stand a better chance of passing your driving test the first time round. When you fail a test, the emotional and financial commitment that went into the process makes it all the more disappointing. Smart Drive UK is one of the leading names in the driving school niche in Small-Heath, because we have developed a curriculum that ensures an even higher chance of a first time pass. We’re proud to have one of the best pass rates in the whole of the UK.

What are the types of cars available for learning in?
We have students who only want to learn how to drive in automatic vehicles, just as there are others who prefer to learn in only manual vehicles. We can cater to both groups, so the choice ultimately comes down to you. Your choice will work well, regardless of what you need it for, because both manual cars and automatic are common on UK roads. Not sure which option to go with? We have expert advisers on hand to help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Give us a call right away on 07760 767170 for the advice you need.
Is it possible to start my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive. However, our approach here at Smart Drive UK is to mix theoretical and practical training. With this, you can immediately see how the things you have learnt in theory can work in practice. Another advantage to starting your driving test right away, is that you will be better prepared for the theory test.
How long is each lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. However, our skilled instructors, and well-packaged training system, is such that an average of two hours each day for instruction and practice is sufficient. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
Everyone’s schedule differs. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. If you like, you can choose to maintain this schedule. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.

Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. This is not only understandable, but also a great idea, especially if you plan to use the car for your driving test. It’s also possible that you just got the car and are looking to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever your motive is, our experts at Smart Drive UK can have you ready for your test with training in your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?

New Hazard Perception Test
Passing the Hazard Perception Test is crucial to passing the UK theory test for learner drivers. It is a compulsory test that has to be passed before you can be granted a full driver’s license. The test consists of a number of videos which depict a typical road scene and a developing hazard. Inability to respond appropriately to the developing hazard will result in failing the test. The Hazard Perception Test comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA, and we have all the materials and information you need to pass the Hazard Perception Test on your first try. Our trainers will guide you with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions, to fully prepare you on what to expect.

Where do I go to book a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound confusing? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long are the tests?
There are five parts to the practical driving test, including independent driving, vehicle reversing, an eyesight check, safety questions, and driving ability. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. It only takes about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
It’s test day, now what?
The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. The next stage involves proving that you can successfully reverse a car and drive without issue on different types of roads. During the test, you will be asked to engage in independent driving for about 20 minutes and the examiner may include an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
Post-Test
Getting your full driving license
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. The examiner will send the results of your practical driving test to the DVLA, who will process your license. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. Our job is only complete when you are officially a qualified and licensed driver.
