Some of our students prefer to learn with automatic transmission vehicles, while others prefer to learn with manual transmission vehicles. We can cater to both groups, so the choice ultimately comes down to you. Manual and automatic cars are equally popular across the UK, and your choice is completely to your wishes. If you’re not sure what type of car fits your unique requirements, don’t worry, our experienced staff can help you make the right choice. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). You are just a phone call away from getting expert advice.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. There are benefits to this advice, as it is in your best interest to, first and foremost, understand how a car works before you get into it. As experts in the industry, however, we know that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. Additionally, starting your driving lessons will help you better prepare for the theory test.
How long will it take to complete a lesson?
You probably combine a variety of activities over your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take to complete a lesson. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. However, our system of training means that our students generally spend around a couple of hours on each lesson. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can decide to keep this schedule if it suits you. If, however, you want a more flexible schedule, we are always willing to accommodate you. For instance, we can provide you back to back training that’ll get you sufficiently prepared for your driving test sooner. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Under certain circumstances, you might want to receive driving lessons in your car. This is understandable, and may even be a great idea if you intend on using your own car during your driving test. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If you have enough time for multiple driving lessons per week, you are welcome to take advantage of all the time at your disposal. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. At the end of the day, what matters is that you’re able to grasp what is being taught and can pass the driving test the first time. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

Aside from driving, our instructors will take the time to teach you about how manual vehicles work. What is Pass Plus?
The Pass Plus scheme is targeted at drivers in the UK who have recently successfully passed their driving test. A lot of new drivers lack the confidence to drive on roads with actual traffic. Once you’ve passed your driving test, our next job at Smart Drive UK is to help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to make you a safer and more confident driver. Pass Plus training lets you leave your usual roads to experience other roads first hand, after your initial training has familiarised you with major road conditions. Need more information? Contact us by phone for a friendly chat about our Pass Plus scheme.
New Hazard Perception Test
You can’t pass the UK driving test without passing the Hazard Perception Test. You cannot be issued a full driver’s license without passing the Hazard Perception test. The test consists of a number of videos which depict a typical road scene and a developing hazard. You have to provide appropriate responses to the developing hazard in order to pass the test. We have the expertise and materials at Smart Drive UK to ensure you pass your Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. Rest assured you’ll be fully prepared, especially after practicing with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions.

What tests do I need to pass before I get my license?
Practice before the main test
Passing your driving test has just been made easier, so don’t fret. Practice matters, so we offer mock theory test practice ahead of the DVLA driving exam. Passing our practice test means you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which comes before the actual theory test.
Driving Test Wem
To qualify for a driver’s license, you will have to take the official DVLA test. We are confident that after attending any of our driving courses, you’ll have what it takes to pass the test on the first attempt. The hundreds of customers who have used our service and passed the test the first time provide sufficient evidence that our courses are designed to deliver results.
Book your tests
How do I go about booking a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. Booking through a third-party website can end up costing you more. Booking a driving test comes after you have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Can’t quite wrap your head around it? It’s not as complicated as it sounds, you’ll have Smart Drive UK instructors to guide you from day one until you get your license.
How long do the tests take?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
It’s test day, now what?
The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. If you pass this stage, you will be asked a series of ‘show and tell’ questions by the examiner to demonstrate your knowledge. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. During the test, you will be asked to engage in independent driving for about 20 minutes and the examiner may include an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.
After the test
What happens before you get your full driving license?
Congratulations on passing your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Within three weeks of completing the practical test, you should receive your license. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. It is only when you have become a licensed and qualified driver that we can dust our hands.
