What are the types of cars available for people like me?
Some of our students prefer to learn with automatic transmission vehicles, while others prefer to learn with manual transmission vehicles. Your choice of learning car is ultimately down to you, as we have both types. Your choice will work well, regardless of what you need it for, because both manual cars and automatic are common on UK roads. Not sure which option to go with? We have expert advisers on hand to help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). You are just a phone call away from getting expert advice.
Can I start driving lessons without having passed the theory test?
The common belief with the general public is that you should pass the theory test before you set out to take practical driving classes. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat. However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
What is the length of time for each lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. However, our skilled instructors, and well-packaged training system, is such that an average of two hours each day for instruction and practice is sufficient. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. But if you’d prefer a more flexible schedule, we can arrange something for you. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever the reason, at Smart Drive UK, we are able to offer our customers driving lessons in their own car. But such a service can only be offered if your vehicle is registered and deemed roadworthy, as well as possessing comprehensive insurance. An inspection of your car to verify its valid registration, and a call to your insurance company to inform them your car will be used for driving lessons will be carried out by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We can provide you multiple lessons per week if your busy schedule permits it. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer a shorter training and practice programme that involves multiple driving lessons every week, we can arrange it. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. We have a very impressive first time pass rate, so you’re in reliable hands no matter your schedule or learning speed.

The Hazard Perception Test comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA, and we have all the materials and information you need to pass the Hazard Perception Test on your first try. If you’re worried about passing your driving test, don’t be, as we’ve made it easy for you. Smart Drive UK makes provisions for mock theory test practice modelled after the DVLA driving exam. Pass our mock test and the DVLA theory practice test will be a breeze, as will the actual theory test that comes afterward.
Driving test in Sutton-in-Ashfield

We have an excellent first time pass rate that can be affirmed by hundreds of our satisfied customers.
Make a booking for your test
How do I go about booking a test?
Go to the official Gov.UK website to book your driving test. It is more cost-effective to avoid booking through a third-party website. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound confusing? The process will get clearer when you work with our instructors at Smart Drive UK, who will guide you from day one.
What is the duration of the tests?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. It only takes about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
What can I expect on test day?
After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. Next, you will be made to prove to the examiner that you can drive safely and effectively no matter the terrain, as well as successfully reverse a vehicle. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. Although taking the practical driving test can be a nerve-racking experience, it’s important to remember that everything you will encounter during the process is something you have performed several times during the course of your driving lessons.
After the test
Getting your full driving license
Well done on getting through your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.
