Failing a driving test will leave you feeling very disappointed, when you factor in the mental stress and finances that went into the training. If you want to get the training that truly prepares you for a first time pass, Smart Drive UK is the place to be. We take pride in the fact that, as a driving school, our first time pass rates are among the highest across the UK.

Call us right away to get started.

What are the available learner car types?

We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.

Is it possible to start my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?

Many people will tell you it’s better to pass the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat.

However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.

What is the duration of each lesson?

We know you’d like to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson, so you can better plan your day. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.

How often should I have my driving lessons?

We all have different schedules. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. If, however, you want a more flexible schedule, we are always willing to accommodate you. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. Regardless of your schedule, we can put together a programme that best suits your needs.

Can I have lessons in my own car?

Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Whatever the reason, at Smart Drive UK, we are able to offer our customers driving lessons in their own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.

Can I have more than one lesson a week?

If you have enough time for multiple driving lessons per week, you are welcome to take advantage of all the time at your disposal. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. At the end of the day, what matters is that you’re able to grasp what is being taught and can pass the driving test the first time. Our first time pass rate is stellar, which means you are in good hands regardless of the training programme you opt for.

You are just a text message away from getting expert advice.

Make a test booking

What is the process of booking a test like?

It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. If you book it through third party websites, you could end up paying more than you should. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound complicated? You don’t have to worry too much, because our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be on hand to guide you through it all.

How long do the tests take?

The driving test has five aspects, which include an eyesight check, driving ability, safety questions, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.

It’s test day, now what?

The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. If you pass this stage, you will be asked a series of ‘show and tell’ questions by the examiner to demonstrate your knowledge. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. Approximately 40 minutes will be sufficient for you to complete the driving test. Although taking the practical driving test can be a nerve-racking experience, it’s important to remember that everything you will encounter during the process is something you have performed several times during the course of your driving lessons.

After the test

driving-instructor

What happens before you get your full driving license?

Well done on getting through your practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. The examiner will send the results of your practical driving test to the DVLA, who will process your license. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. Our job is only complete when you are officially a qualified and licensed driver.
