Many learner drivers believe that it is perfectly fine to fail the driving test the first time. The fact is, there is no guarantee that you will fail your first test, because many people have also passed. Results have shown us time and time again that a first-time pass is a very likely outcome of your driving test.
When you fail a test, the emotional and financial commitment that went into the process makes it all the more disappointing. Smart Drive UK is one of the leading names in the driving school niche in Maidstone, because we have developed a curriculum that prepares you for a first time pass. We’re proud to have one of the best pass rates in the whole of the UK.
You are just a phone call away from getting expert advice.
What type of cars do you have for learners?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Is it possible to start my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Generally, you will be advised to pass the theory test before you go for your practical driving lessons. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat.
As experts in the industry, however, we know that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
What is the length of time for each lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. However, our system of training means that our students generally spend around a couple of hours on each lesson. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving training every week, it will be sufficient. Depending on your situation, you can decide to keep this schedule. If, however, you want a more flexible schedule, we are always willing to accommodate you. For example, we could arrange for back to back training every day that will speed up your training and have you prepared for your driving test faster. Regardless of your schedule, we can always make arrangements to suit you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. Our Smart Drive UK fixed and flexible schedule plans can be personalised to suit even the busiest individual’s schedule. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you are in good hands when you choose Smart Drive UK.

Booking your Test
How do I go about booking a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. If you book it through third party websites, you could end up paying more than you should. Booking a driving test comes after you have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Does this sound confusing? You don’t have to worry too much, because our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be on hand to guide you through it all.
What is the duration of the tests?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. Both automatic and manual transmission is given the same treatment during testing. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
What you should expect on the day of the test.
After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. The next stage involves proving that you can successfully reverse a car and drive without issue on different types of roads. You will have to drive without guidance for about 20 minutes, in which the examiner may ask you to stop to test your ability to manage an emergency. The driving test will last around 40 minutes. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.
What follows after the test?
Getting your full driving license
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. The results of your practical driving test will be sent to the DVLA, where your license will be processed. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. Our job is only complete when you are officially a qualified and licensed driver.
