What type of car will I be learning in?
We know that there are many students that want to learn how to drive in manual cars, and there are also those that prefer automatic transmission. You will have the freedom to choose what car you’d like to learn in, as we have both manual and automatic cars. Your choice of learning with manual or automatic will be a smart one regardless, as both variants can be found all across the UK. Can’t make up your mind on one choice over the other? You can talk to us right away and we will be delighted to help (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Call us today on 07760 767170 for expert advice.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Generally, you will be advised to pass the theory test before you go for your practical driving lessons. There are benefits to this advice, as it is in your best interest to, first and foremost, understand how a car works before you get into it. One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
How long is each lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. However, with our instructors, and our carefully crafted training system, you can expect to spend an average of 2 hours on each lesson. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We all have different schedules. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. Or you can opt for a more flexible schedule, which we’ll be more than happy to accommodate. Many of our clients that have the time prefer opting for back to back training every day, so they can be prepared for their driving test faster. No matter what type of schedule you have, we can arrange something suitable for you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Under certain circumstances, you might want to receive driving lessons in your car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. You may also be looking to familiarise yourself with the vehicle, especially if it’s a new one. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But this type of service is only available to clients with registered and comprehensively insured roadworthy vehicles. An inspection of your car to verify its valid registration, and a call to your insurance company to inform them your car will be used for driving lessons will be carried out by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. The first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you are in good hands when you choose Smart Drive UK.

Our instructors are well experienced and can share with you vital knowledge concerning how to best operate a manual car. The best thing about manual driving lessons is that you don’t need to learn how to drive an automatic car. Manual driving lessons cover both.
What is Pass Plus?
The Pass Plus scheme is targeted at drivers in the UK who have recently successfully passed their driving test. Many new drivers lack the confidence to drive on busy public roads. Fortunately, once your driving test has been passed, Smart Drive UK can be there for you by providing you everything you need to be a safe and confident driver on any road. While your initial training familiarises you with major road conditions, Pass Plus training will let you experience the roads outside your immediate vicinity first hand. Want more information? Contact us by phone for a friendly chat about our Pass Plus scheme.
New Hazard Perception Test
One of the tests you’ll have to undergo before passing the UK driving test is the Hazard Perception Test. You cannot be issued a full driver’s license without passing the Hazard Perception test. A series of videos will be shown during the test, depicting everyday road scenes and a developing hazard. Responding appropriately to the developing hazard will determine if you pass the test. As part of our training at Smart Drive UK, we offer comprehensive preparation to all our students for the Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. We will provide you access to various revision questions, as well as our collection of Hazard Perception videos.

How do I book a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. We recommend this because you may end up having to pay more if you use third-party websites. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound complicated? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long will I have to wait to complete the test?
You will have to pass through the five aspects of the practical driving test: driving ability, safety questions, an eyesight check, independent driving, and vehicle reversing. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
It’s test day, now what?
The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. If you pass this stage, you will be asked a series of ‘show and tell’ questions by the examiner to demonstrate your knowledge. Next, you will be made to prove to the examiner that you can drive safely and effectively no matter the terrain, as well as successfully reverse a vehicle. The test includes 20 minutes of independent driving, possibly with an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. It is perfectly normal to be nervous during the practical driving test, but there is really nothing to it because everything you will have to do, you have already done through the course of your driving lessons.
What happens before you get your full driving license?
Congratulations on passing your practical driving test. Now, you can apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test. From day one, to the day you get your driving license, Smart Drive UK is always ready to guide you through the process. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
