What are the types of cars available for learning in?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Can I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will tell you it’s better to pass the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. This system has it benefits, as you will then know enough about using a car before getting behind the wheel.
As experts in the industry, however, we know that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. Also, you will be better prepared for the theory test when you have started your driving lessons.
What is the length of time for each lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. However, our system of training means that our students generally spend around a couple of hours on each lesson. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. If, however, you want a more flexible schedule, we are always willing to accommodate you. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. It’s also possible that you just got the car and are looking to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever the reason, at Smart Drive UK, we are able to offer our customers driving lessons in their own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. One of our instructors will notify your car insurance company that your vehicle will be used for driving lessons, and will also inspect your car to verify its valid registration.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you would like to complete your training fast by taking multiple lessons every week, we can arrange that. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.
You are just a text message away from getting expert advice.

Book your tests
Where do I go to book a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. Booking through a third-party website can end up costing you more. Booking a driving test comes after you have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Sound confusing? It’s not as complicated as it sounds, you’ll have Smart Drive UK instructors to guide you from day one until you get your license.
How long will it take before the tests are completed?
There are five parts to the practical driving test, including independent driving, vehicle reversing, an eyesight check, safety questions, and driving ability. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What happens on test day?
The first stage will test your eyesight by making you read from a number plate, but before that, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. During the test, you will be asked to engage in independent driving for about 20 minutes and the examiner may include an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
What to do after the test
Ready for a full driving license
Congratulations on passing your practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. From day one, to the day you get your driving license, Smart Drive UK is always ready to guide you through the process. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
