What are the types of cars available for learning in?
There are some learner drivers who prefer to learn with automatic vehicles only, while there are those who opt for the manual or gear stick variety. You will have the freedom to choose what car you’d like to learn in, as we have both manual and automatic cars. Whatever option you choose to go with, you will be in good company, as there are lots of manual and automatic drivers in the UK. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Call us right away to get started.
Can I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive. However, our approach here at Smart Drive UK is to mix theoretical and practical training. This combination means you can quickly see how the theoretical concepts are applicable in real life. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
How long will it take to complete a lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. However, with our instructors, and our carefully crafted training system, you can expect to spend an average of 2 hours on each lesson. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We all have different schedules. Nonetheless, if you are a learner driver, at least two hours of driving training per week can be very beneficial. Depending on your situation, you can decide to keep this schedule. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. No matter what your daily schedule looks like, we have you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. This is not only understandable, but also a great idea, especially if you plan to use the car for your driving test. Such an arrangement could also be beneficial if the car is a new one and you are trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If you have enough time for multiple driving lessons per week, you are welcome to take advantage of all the time at your disposal. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. The first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you are in good hands when you choose Smart Drive UK.

This is because the skills provided by our manual driving lessons will also help you drive an automatic.
What is Pass Plus?
Pass Plus is a UK scheme targeted at new drivers who’ve recently passed their driving test. A lot of new drivers lack the confidence to drive on roads with actual traffic. Once you’ve passed your driving test, our next job at Smart Drive UK is to help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to make you a safer and more confident driver. Pass Plus training lets you leave your usual roads to experience other roads first hand, after your initial training has familiarised you with major road conditions. Want more information? Give us a call today to discover more about Smart Drive UK’s Pass Plus Scheme.
New Hazard Perception Test
You can’t pass the UK driving test without passing the Hazard Perception Test. You cannot be issued a full driver’s license without passing the Hazard Perception test. A series of videos will be shown during the test, depicting everyday road scenes and a developing hazard. You need to respond appropriately to the developing hazard to pass the test. We have the expertise and materials at Smart Drive UK to ensure you pass your Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. Rest assured you’ll be fully prepared, especially after practicing with our collection of Hazard Perception videos and revision questions.

What tests do I need to pass before I get my license?
Practice to pass
Passing your driving test has just been made easier, so don’t fret. At Smart Drive UK, our mock theory test practice is tailored to the DVLA driving exam. Passing our practice test means you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which comes before the actual theory test.
Driving Test Hatfield
The driving test is the official DVLA test you have to take before obtaining your driver’s license. Take any of our driving courses for a chance to pass your test on the very first attempt. So many of our customers have passed the test the first time that we are confident you can achieve similar results.
Booking your Test
How do I book a test?
It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound confusing? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long do the tests take?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. Both automatic and manual transmission is given the same treatment during testing. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What can I expect on test day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. The entire driving test should last about 40 minutes. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
What to do after the test
What happens before you get your full driving license?
You should be proud now that you have passed your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. Our job is only complete when you are officially a qualified and licensed driver.
