High chance of first time pass
Most learner drivers think it is normal to fail a driving test on the first attempt. The number of people that fail their driving test may be high, but the number that passes the test the first time is also high. In fact, according to statistics, you have a higher chance of passing your driving test the first time.
After you fail a test, you will feel disappointed as a result of the emotion and the finances you put into the process. If you want to get the training that truly prepares you for a first time pass, Smart Drive UK is the place to be. We’re proud to have one of the best pass rates in the whole of the UK.
Give us a call right away for the advice you need.
What are the available learner car types?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will tell you it’s better to pass the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat.
However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. With this, you can immediately see how the things you have learnt in theory can work in practice. Another advantage to starting your driving test right away, is that you will be better prepared for the theory test.</p>
What is the duration of each lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. Do you think you can learn faster? Contact us to set up a faster instruction programme.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that schedules differ from individual to individual. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. But if you’d prefer a more flexible schedule, we can arrange something for you. For example, we could arrange for back to back training every day that will speed up your training and have you prepared for your driving test faster. No matter what type of schedule you have, we can arrange something suitable for you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. This is not only understandable, but also a great idea, especially if you plan to use the car for your driving test. It’s also possible that you just got the car and are looking to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. But such a service can only be offered if your vehicle is registered and deemed roadworthy, as well as possessing comprehensive insurance. An inspection of your car to verify its valid registration, and a call to your insurance company to inform them your car will be used for driving lessons will be carried out by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule allows for more than one lesson a week, then there’s no reason not to take advantage. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. We have a very impressive first time pass rate, so you’re in reliable hands no matter your schedule or learning speed.
You are just a text message away from getting expert advice.

Book your tests
How do I go about booking a test?
The best way to book your driving test is to do so through the official Gov.UK website. Booking through a third-party website can end up costing you more. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound confusing? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
How long are the tests?
The practical driving test is broken into five parts: an eyesight check, safety questions, driving ability, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
What happens on test day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes on the driving test. We understand that you may be extremely nervous during the practical driving test, but remember that you have already encountered all you’ll have to do in your driving lessons.
After the test
Getting your full driving license
Well done on getting through your practical driving test. This means you are now qualified to apply for a proper driving license. Once the results of your practical driving test are sent to the DVLA, your license will be processed. Within three weeks of completing the practical test, you should receive your license. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. It is only when you have become a licensed and qualified driver that we can dust our hands.
