What are the available learner car types?
We know that there are many students that want to learn how to drive in manual cars, and there are also those that prefer automatic transmission. We can cater to both groups, so the choice ultimately comes down to you. Your choice will work well, regardless of what you need it for, because both manual cars and automatic are common on UK roads. If you don’t understand how each type of car fits into your specific needs and requirements, you can give us a call today and we will help you (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). Give us a call right away on 07760 767170 for the advice you need.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
You will generally be advised to hold on your practical driving lessons until you have passed your theory test. This approach isn’t wrong, as it is sensible to first understand how a car works before you begin to drive. One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. In addition, someone that is already experienced in driving lessons will have a higher chance of success when it is time for the theory test.
How long is each lesson?
We know it is important for you to know the duration of each lesson, so as to better plan your day. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. However, our skilled instructors, and well-packaged training system, is such that an average of two hours each day for instruction and practice is sufficient. Interested in a different training schedule? Call us on 07760 767170 to find out more.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving training every week, it will be sufficient. You can continue with this schedule if you prefer it. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. Many of our clients that have the time prefer opting for back to back training every day, so they can be prepared for their driving test faster. Regardless of your schedule, we can always make arrangements to suit you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. It might also be the case of you owning a new car and trying to familiarise yourself with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. An inspection of your car to verify its valid registration, and a call to your insurance company to inform them your car will be used for driving lessons will be carried out by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you are in good hands when you choose Smart Drive UK.

Tests required before licenses are issued
Mock theory test
Passing your driving test has just been made easier, so don’t fret. With Smart Drive UK, you can practice before the DVLA driving exam in order to ensure you are prepared. As long as you can pass this, you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which is required before you can take the actual theory test.
Driving test in Cumbria
The driving test is the official DVLA test you have to take before obtaining your driver’s license. We are confident that after attending any of our driving courses, you’ll have what it takes to pass the test on the first attempt. With the high pass rate amongst hundreds of our customers, you can see why we are so confident.
Booking your Test
How do I go about booking a test?
First, we suggest that you make your booking via the official Gov.UK website. Booking through a third-party website can end up costing you more. Booking a driving test comes after you have passed the hazard perception test and theory test. Can’t quite wrap your head around it? The process will get clearer when you work with our instructors at Smart Drive UK, who will guide you from day one.
How long will I have to wait to complete the test?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What happens on the designated day?
After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. Upon passing the step, a series of show and tell questions will follow, aimed at testing your knowledge. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. The entire driving test should last about 40 minutes. Remember that while the practical driving test can be nerve-racking, all you will be asked to do has already been covered as you went through your driving course.
So you have completed the test
What to expect before obtaining your full driving license
You should be proud now that you have passed your practical driving test. Now, you can apply for a full driving license. The DVLA will process your license after receiving the results from your examiner. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. Our representatives at Smart Drive UK are always ready to provide guidance throughout the process of getting a driving license. Until you have been officially licensed as a qualified driver, our job is not done.
