What are the available learner car types?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Can I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. There is nothing wrong with this, as it makes sense to understand how a car works before you get into the driver’s seat.
However, at Smart Drive UK, we believe it’s better to combine both theoretical and practical training. With this, you can immediately see how the things you have learnt in theory can work in practice. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
How long will it take to complete a lesson?
We know you’d like to better plan your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson. The duration of each lesson depends on your aptitude, and the instructor assigned to you. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. Want a quicker or slower training schedule? Call us right away to discuss your options.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. If it suits your needs, you can continue your training following this schedule. But if you’d prefer a more flexible schedule, we can arrange something for you. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. Regardless of your schedule, we can always make arrangements to suit you.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Under certain circumstances, you might want to receive driving lessons in your car. We are amenable to this because we believe training with your own car can be helpful if you intend on taking the driving test with that same car. It’s also possible that you just got the car and are looking to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of what your motive might be, Smart Drive UK can deliver driving lessons in your own car. But we can only provide this service if your car is insured, roadworthy, and registered. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We are ready to accommodate you if you have the time for more than one lesson a week. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If you want a sped up training programme that consists of multiple lessons every week, we’ve got you covered. Our priority is that you learn at a pace you are most comfortable with and are prepared in time to take and pass your driving test on the first try. Our first time pass rate is stellar, which means you are in good hands regardless of the training programme you opt for.

Booking your Test
What do I have to do to book a test?
It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. It is more cost-effective to avoid booking through a third-party website. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Does this sound confusing? The process will get clearer when you work with our instructors at Smart Drive UK, who will guide you from day one.
What is the duration of the tests?
The driving test has five aspects, which include an eyesight check, driving ability, safety questions, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Whether you are testing for automatic or manual transmission, it’s the same process. The driving test takes less than an hour, specifically 40 minutes.
What happens on the designated day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Next, you will have to demonstrate your knowledge by answering a series of show and tell questions, but only if you pass the eye test. After this, the examiner will test your ability to reverse a car and drive on different kinds of roads in a safe and effective manner. You will be asked to drive independently for approximately 20 minutes, and you may be asked to complete an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. We understand that you may be extremely nervous during the practical driving test, but remember that you have already encountered all you’ll have to do in your driving lessons.
What follows after the test?
Obtaining a full driving license
Great job acing that practical driving test. Now, you can apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Your driving license should get to you no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.
