Can I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Generally, you will be advised to pass the theory test before you go for your practical driving lessons. There are benefits to this advice, as it is in your best interest to, first and foremost, understand how a car works before you get into it. One thing we have learnt in our experience here at Smart Drive UK, however, is that combining theoretical and practical training is always the best bet. This allows you to immediately see how theory works while behind the wheels. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
How long is each lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. With our system of training, and the way we have structured our courses, however, you can expect to spend around two hours in a session. If you’d like a faster instruction programme, get in touch with us to discuss your preferences.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
Everyone’s schedule differs. However, if you can get at least two hours of driving training every week, it will be sufficient. If you like, you can choose to maintain this schedule. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. Such as back to back trainings each day, that will get you prepared for your driving test in shorter time. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. This could be a great idea, especially if you intend on using your car to take the driving test. Such an arrangement could also be beneficial if the car is a new one and you are trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of your reason, you can count on Smart Drive UK for driving lessons and practice in your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We can provide you multiple lessons per week if your busy schedule permits it. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If you prefer multiple lessons every week to speed up your learning process, we can deliver. Our priority is to provide you the training you need at your preferred pace, and have you prepared to ace the driving test the first time. We have a very impressive first time pass rate, so you’re in reliable hands no matter your schedule or learning speed.

Passing the Hazard Perception Test is crucial to passing the UK theory test for learner drivers. A series of videos will be shown during the test, depicting everyday road scenes and a developing hazard. You need to respond appropriately to the developing hazard to pass the test. We have the expertise and materials at Smart Drive UK to ensure you pass your Hazard Perception Test, which comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA. At Smart Drive UK, you’ll have access to our Hazard Perception video collection, as well as a series of revision questions.

Book your tests
How do I book a test?
First, we suggest that you make your booking via the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Sound confusing? Don’t worry, our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be available to guide you through every stage of the process.
How long do the tests take?
There are five parts to the practical driving test, including independent driving, vehicle reversing, an eyesight check, safety questions, and driving ability. Both automatic and manual transmission is given the same treatment during testing. It only takes about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
What happens on test day?
Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. The next stage involves proving that you can successfully reverse a car and drive without issue on different types of roads. During the test, you will be asked to engage in independent driving for about 20 minutes and the examiner may include an emergency stop. The entire driving test should last about 40 minutes. Although taking the practical driving test can be a nerve-racking experience, it’s important to remember that everything you will encounter during the process is something you have performed several times during the course of your driving lessons.
After the test
Getting your full driving license
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. You can now proceed to the next step, which is to apply for a proper driving license. The results of your practical driving test will be sent to the DVLA, where your license will be processed. You should receive your license no later than three weeks after passing the practical driving test. Our representatives at Smart Drive UK are always ready to provide guidance throughout the process of getting a driving license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.
