What are the types of cars available for learning in?
We currently have an array of manual cars you can chose to learn in, and so the choice is completely down to you. Can’t work out the best option for you based on your requirements? Why don’t you discuss them with us, and we can help you make a decision.
Is it right to begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. That thought process isn’t entirely wrong, as this method will give you adequate background knowledge on using a car before you actually get in the driver’s seat.
As experts in the industry, however, we know that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. The combination creates a synergy which makes it easier to grasp both elements of driving training at the same time. There is also a higher chance of success with your theory test when you have started with your driving lessons.
How long is each lesson?
We know you’d like to better plan your day, so you’ll want to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson. Your assimilation speed and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson are the major determinants in the duration of each lesson. However, our skilled instructors, and well-packaged training system, is such that an average of two hours each day for instruction and practice is sufficient. If you’d like a lesson schedule that is faster or slower, simply call us to discuss what you need.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that every individual has their unique schedule. However, it’s recommended that learner drivers have at least two hours of training each week. If it suits your needs, you can continue your training following this schedule. Or we could help you arrange a more flexible schedule that better suits your needs. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Some individuals are more comfortable receiving driving lessons in their own car. If you intend on using your car for the driving test, we believe practicing with your own car could be a great idea. Such an arrangement could also be beneficial if the car is a new one and you are trying to familiarise yourself with it. Regardless of what your motive might be, Smart Drive UK can deliver driving lessons in your own car. But this type of service is only available to clients with registered and comprehensively insured roadworthy vehicles. A notification will be sent to your car insurance company concerning your vehicle being used for driving lessons, and verification of the valid registration of your car can be performed by one of our instructors.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We can provide you multiple lessons per week if you’re busy schedule permits it. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedule plans available that can accommodate even your busy schedule. If you would like to complete your training fast by taking multiple lessons every week, we can arrange that. Our priority is that you learn at a pace you are most comfortable with and are prepared in time to take and pass your driving test on the first try. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

Make a test booking
Where do I go to book a test?
Go to the official Gov.UK website to book your driving test. It is more cost-effective to avoid booking through a third-party website. You should only book your driving test if you have already passed the hazard perception test and the theory test. Sound confusing? Not to worry, you’ll get all the help you need from Smart Drive UK instructors who will help you through every step of the process.
What is the duration of the tests?
The driving test has five aspects, which include an eyesight check, driving ability, safety questions, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. Both automatic and manual transmission is given the same treatment during testing. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
What can I expect on test day?
Before anything else, you will show your theory test and provisional license and then prove you have good eyesight by reading a number plate from a distance. Upon completion of this stage, you will be tested on your knowledge based on how you answer a couple of show and tell questions. After this stage, you are required to prove to the examiner that you can successfully complete a reversing manoeuvre, plus drive safely and effectively on different types of roads. During the test, you will be asked to engage in independent driving for about 20 minutes and the examiner may include an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
