What are the types of cars available for learning in?
There are some learner drivers who prefer to learn with automatic vehicles only, while there are those who opt for the manual or gear stick variety. Ultimately, you will determine the choice of car in which you’ll be learning. Both manual and automatic cars are common on UK roads, and either choice will work well for whatever you need it for. Not sure which option to go with? We have expert advisers on hand to help you make a decision. (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). We are waiting by the phone for you.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
The common belief with the general public is that you should pass the theory test before you set out to take practical driving classes. This system has it benefits, as you will then know enough about using a car before getting behind the wheel. As experts in the industry, however, we know that it is best to combine both theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. Another advantage to starting your driving test right away, is that you will be better prepared for the theory test.
What is the length of time for each lesson?
Many people have a lot to do to make up their day, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to know how long each lesson will take. The length of time spent on each lesson will depend on your learning ability, and the teaching methods deployed by the instructor. However, our skilled instructors, working with a properly planned course outline, ensure that you will spend only two hours on average on each task. Interested in a different training schedule? Call us on 07760 767170 to find out more.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We understand that every individual has their unique schedule. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. Depending on your situation, you can decide to keep this schedule. Or we can arrange a more flexible schedule that suits your needs. Many of our clients that have the time prefer opting for back to back training every day, so they can be prepared for their driving test faster. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Many individuals prefer driving lessons being received in their own car. This is understandable, and may even be a great idea if you intend on using your own car during your driving test. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Regardless of what your motive might be, Smart Drive UK can deliver driving lessons in your own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. This will be verified through an inspection of your papers by our instructors, and after your insurance company has been notified that the car will be used for driving lessons.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
If your schedule allows for more than one lesson a week, then there’s no reason not to take advantage. At Smart Drive UK, we have both fixed and flexible schedules that can accommodate everyone. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. What matters to us is that you learn at your own pace and are sufficiently prepared to pass your driving test on the first try. The impressive first time pass rate of our students is a clear indication you’re in capable hands with Smart Drive UK, regardless of the schedule or learning speed you choose.

New Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception Test is essential for UK learner drivers looking to pass the driving theory exam. You have to pass the Hazard Perception test before you can be issued a full driver’s license During the test, various videos depicting normal road scenes and a developing hazard will be shown to you. You have to provide appropriate responses to the developing hazard in order to pass the test. At Smart Drive UK, we make sure every one of our learner drivers are put through their paces in preparation for the Hazard Perception Test, which is a precursor to the practical driving test at the DVLA. Make a test booking
How do I go about booking a test?
It’s recommended you book the driving test via the official Gov.UK website. It is more cost-effective to avoid booking through a third-party website. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Not clear enough? It’s not as complicated as it sounds, you’ll have Smart Drive UK instructors to guide you from day one until you get your license.
How long will I have to wait to complete the test?
The driving test has five aspects, which include an eyesight check, driving ability, safety questions, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. It is the same process for automatic transmission as it is for manual transmission. You’ll only spend about 40 minutes taking the actual driving test.
What happens on the designated day?
After showing your provisional license and theory test certificate, you’ll need to prove that you have good eyesight by reading the number of a license plate some distance away. If you pass this stage, you will be asked a series of ‘show and tell’ questions by the examiner to demonstrate your knowledge. Next, you will be made to prove to the examiner that you can drive safely and effectively no matter the terrain, as well as successfully reverse a vehicle. You will have to drive without guidance for about 20 minutes, in which the examiner may ask you to stop to test your ability to manage an emergency. The entire driving test should last about 40 minutes. We understand that you may be extremely nervous during the practical driving test, but remember that you have already encountered all you’ll have to do in your driving lessons.
What follows after the test?
Obtaining a full driving license
You should be proud now that you have passed your practical driving test. This is what qualifies you to apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Your driving license should be ready within about 21 days of completing the practical driving test. At Smart Drive UK, we are always available to guide you through the process up until you receive your driving license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.
