If you are like most learner drivers, then you probably believe that it is normal to fail a driving test the first time. Although it is true that some people fail, many more tend to pass. Statistics have shown us time and time again that a first time pass is the most likely outcome of your driving test. When you fail a test, the emotional and financial commitment that went into the process makes it all the more disappointing. Smart Drive UK is one of the leading names in the driving school niche in Ladywood, because we have developed a curriculum that ensures an even higher chance of a first time pass. We take pride in the fact that, as a driving school, our first time pass rates are among the highest across the UK.

What type of car will I be learning in?
Over the years, we have seen people who prefer to only learn in automatic vehicles, and we have also seen people that love the manual stick. Your choice of learning car is ultimately down to you, as we have both types. Whatever option you choose to go with, you will be in good company, as there are lots of manual and automatic drivers in the UK. Can’t make up your mind on one choice over the other? You can talk to us right away and we will be delighted to help (please note automatic cars are subject to availability). We are waiting by the phone for you.
Should I begin my driving lessons before I have passed the theory test?
Many people will think about passing the theory test before taking practical driving lessons. There are benefits to this advice, as it is in your best interest to, first and foremost, understand how a car works before you get into it. However, our approach here at Smart Drive UK is to mix theoretical and practical training. This way, you can bring what you learnt in theory practice and see how it works practically. Another advantage to starting your driving test right away, is that you will be better prepared for the theory test.
How long is each lesson?
We know you’d like to find out how long it will take you to complete a lesson, so you can better plan your day. The length of time it will take to complete one lesson is dependent on your learning ability and how the teacher chooses to deliver the lesson. However, with our instructors, and our carefully crafted training system, you can expect to spend an average of 2 hours on each lesson. Interested in a different training schedule? Call us on 07760 767170 to find out more.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
We are well aware that your schedule is likely different from everyone else’s. But two hours of driving training every week is the recommended minimum for learner drivers. If you like, you can choose to maintain this schedule. Or we can arrange a more flexible schedule that suits your needs. If you prefer back to back training each day, this can speed up your learning process, and help you prepare for the driving test that little bit faster. Whatever your schedule is, we’ve got you covered.
Can I have lessons in my own car?
Certain people prefer receiving their driving training behind the wheel of their own car. This is understandable, and may even be a great idea if you intend on using your own car during your driving test. It could also be that you have a new car and want to get familiar with it. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. But we cannot provide this service if your vehicle isn’t deemed roadworthy, or if it is uninsured and unregistered. One of our instructors will notify your car insurance company that your vehicle will be used for driving lessons, and will also inspect your car to verify its valid registration.
Can I have more than one lesson a week?
We can provide you multiple lessons per week if your busy schedule permits it. This is possible thanks to our accommodating flexible and fixed schedules at Smart Drive UK. If your plan is to speed up the learning process by having multiple lessons in a week, we can arrange that. Our aim is to have you master driving at your own pace and be ready to ace your driving test the first time you take it. We have a very impressive first time pass rate, so you’re in reliable hands no matter your schedule or learning speed.

New Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception Test is essential for UK learner drivers looking to pass the driving theory exam. You have to pass the Hazard Perception test before you can be issued a full driver’s license The test consists of a number of videos which depict a typical road scene and a developing hazard. Inability to respond appropriately to the developing hazard will result in failing the test. The Hazard Perception Test comes before the practical driving test at the DVLA, and we have all the materials and information you need to pass the Hazard Perception Test on your first try. We will provide you access to various revision questions, as well as our collection of Hazard Perception videos.

Required tests you must pass before you are issued your license
Increase your chances of passing the DVLA test
Passing your driving test has just been made easier, so don’t fret. Smart Drive UK helps you get ready for the DVLA driving test by providing mock theory test practice. As long as you can pass this, you can pass the DVLA theory practice test, which is required before you can take the actual theory test.
Qualify for your driving license in Ladywood
You can only get your driver’s license after you have taken the official DVLA test. We have little doubt that you will be able to ace the test after completing one of our driving courses. Our customers have proven that our courses are likely to result in a first time pass.
Book your tests
What do I have to do to book a test?
It is best to book your driving test directly via the official Gov.UK website. You may lose money if you decide to book via a third-party website instead. You need to have passed the theory test and hazard perception test before you book your driving test. Does this sound confusing? You don’t have to worry too much, because our instructors at Smart Drive UK will be on hand to guide you through it all.
How long are the tests?
The driving test has five aspects, which include an eyesight check, driving ability, safety questions, vehicle reversing, and independent driving. You will have to complete the steps in the same manner, whether you are working with automatic or manual transmission. The actual driving test takes an average of 40 minutes to complete.
What happens on test day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. If you pass this stage, you will be asked a series of ‘show and tell’ questions by the examiner to demonstrate your knowledge. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. During the test, you will be asked to engage in independent driving for about 20 minutes and the examiner may include an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. Nothing you encounter during the practical driving test is beyond what you have already covered in your driving lessons, so while it may be nerve-racking, nothing will be entirely new.
Obtaining a full driving license
Great job acing that practical driving test. The next step is to apply for a full driving a license. The examiner will send the results of your practical driving test to the DVLA, who will process your license. You should expect to receive this within three weeks of passing the practical driving test. In order to ensure you have all the assistance you need, we at Smart Drive UK are always available to guide you through the process of obtaining a driving license. We are not done until you have been licensed as a qualified driver.
