What type of car will I be learning in?

What is the length of time for each lesson?

You may prefer to undergo your driving training behind the wheel of your own car. If you intend on using your car for the driving test, we believe practicing with your own car could be a great idea. You may also be looking to familiarise yourself with the vehicle, especially if it’s a new one. Whatever your reason, Smart Drive UK can prepare you for your driving test with your own car. However, this is only possible if the car is roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured. Our instructors will need to inspect the car to check for valid registration, and may be required to notify your insurance company that the car will be used for driving lessons.

How long will it take before the tests are completed?
For the driving test to be completed, you have to complete five steps, including vehicle reversing, independent driving, safety questions, driving ability, and an eyesight check. You will have to complete the steps in the same manner, whether you are working with automatic or manual transmission. You will only have to spare about 40 minutes to complete the driving test.
What can I expect on test day?
First, you will have to show your theory test certificate and your provisional license, after which you will be required to read the number of a license plate some metres away, as a way to test your eyesight. Once you have passed through this stage, the examiner will test your knowledge by asking a number of show and tell questions. Following this, you will have to prove your skills as a driver and let the examiner know that you are capable of reversing a vehicle and driving on different types of roads effectively and safely. The examiner will ask you to drive on your own for about 20 minutes and, along the way, may ask you to complete an emergency stop. In its entirety, the driving test should not take more than 40 minutes or so. We understand that you may be extremely nervous during the practical driving test, but remember that you have already encountered all you’ll have to do in your driving lessons.
After the test
Obtaining a full driving license
Well done, you have successfully completed your practical driving test. Now, you can apply for a full driving license. Your license will be processed by the DVLA once the results of the practical driving test are in. Within three weeks of completing the practical test, you should receive your license.
